Thursday Morning Eucharist in Portugese - Br. Sergio dell Moro

Saint John sees the relations between heaven and earth more clearly than the other evangelists who wrote before him. To represent them, he uses new language models. These speak of a world at the top: the afterlife, where God lives. And of a world below: here, where men live. Saint John knows: Jesus is the Son of God. He has always been close to his Father, and will be eternally close to him.
He came down to earth at a time in history. His death on the cross represents a new elevation. From a purely human point of view, the cross is the definitive defeat of Jesus; his death is the failure of all his earthly projects. From the point of view of God, the cross of Jesus represents God's victory over the world and signifies our salvation. If we believe in Jesus, Son of God, we already have eternal life. Jesus is the seed of hope through which God acts in the world. God became another, he became man. So I can also become another: I am lucky to become a man, a human being in an inhuman world.
