The General Minister speaks to the participants of Chapter of Mats

The vicar general began the second session of this morning. He invited the participants to remember the first chapter of mats celebrated by st. Francis. He prayed and reflected with brothers about the call and vocation.
The general minister began his talk saying that we can change what we are conscious and aware of. He said that he would touch the points which are not touched. How to live today the charism of capuchin in context is different from one another. To help each other to incarnate our charism wherever we are. From one context to another context is not easy.
The story of capuchins in India which will help us to understand who we are, four hundred years ago the capuchins who came to serve pastorally the Europeans who were  working. Then later on they started working among the missionaries.
The missionaries once they began to form capuchins as they were formed earlier. They just did copycat. They also transmitted missionary zeal. Formators can talk about theories but handing over their experience. The order is taught the sense of missionary activity. Worries about sending Friars where there is no work. Fraternities are small today.
Why there are no imitators today of these missionaries in the provinces.
Friars are working in the missions from India who are doing well. They need support and our prayers.  To be a missionary in Africa is a huge and big challenge for anyone. Several languages have to be learnt. We need to learn a culture which is different. Often we think that our culture is best. The tendency to call these cultures ad dismiss them secondary. No appreciation for the culture. Today we don't ask about chapels but we ask internet connections.
The missionaries begin to implant the order. The local Friars are intelligent and capable to handle. After sometimes these locals start asserting and don't accept the authority of the foreigners. The rebellion grows and then the tendency on the part of the missionaries decide to return.
