Can we be Merciful to one another?????

The Holy Father will declare and dedicate a Holy year of Mercy on 8th of December.  The year will be marked with many actions of mercy on the part of the Church and Society. It is urgently needed to show mercy to one another. We need to forgive as the Father forgave our sins. The year of mercy will give us an opportunity to ask for and to show mercy to those who need it. Those who are affected by the sins of the World and society. Change and healing can take place only when one feels that someone is opening the doors of Mercy. It gives confidence and allows the person to trust and believe in the surrounding and environment in which one lives. We may wonder about the year being dedicated to Year of Mercy. Do I, we and others need it? My answer is :YES". Today we live in the age of sinfulness, intolerance and un-forgivness. There is so much of hatred based on caste, creed and religion. There are children hurt by the parents and those close to them. There are spouses hurt by each other. There are Bishops, priests and religious hurt by each other. We all need forgiveness and mercy to be once again whole and intact in the image of God. We need to experience the God of Mercy who showered forgiveness on us through his Merciful Son Jesus Christ. His mercy brought us back into the circle of God's Love and mercy. We have a golden opportunity to be drawn back to God's mercy and forgiveness provided we are willing to open the doors of our souls and hearts.

If God is so merciful to us why then we, who are mortals withhold this Mercy which we have received gratuitously from Him. Why can't we forgive and forget those who have done some harm. Why do we harness these hurt feelings to the extent of becoming psychological sick. Why many of us have nurtured those hurt feelings and buried ourselves under the heavy weight of those harming feelings of hurt and un-forgivness. How many of us end of spending huge amount of money on the sickness which is not there but mentally created due to those hurts. The year gives us a chance to take off the burden and walk free in the love and light of God.

How many families are broken due to these hurt feelings. How many are distanced from one another? How many are buried in this sin and have never seen the light and grace which the Sacrament of reconciliation can offer? It is a moment that we all can be aware and make others aware of it. It would be a wonderful moment to be a missionary of Mercy in our own homes, fraternities and places of work. There are so many waiting for our mercy and forgiveness. Why not begin today, right now. The Lord is calling us to be merciful? Can we be merciful?

I have experienced so much of mercy from the Lord. Every time i ask for it, i do experience in my life and relationships. I have experienced from brothers, friends and others in whole of my life. I always make a point to forget and forgive. I have realized that our spiritual life does not grow when we have these hurt feelings nurtured within us.
