St. Thomas Friary, Kavalam

This place called Kavalam is below sea level so there is always water throughout the year....the fields are filled with water now and look like lakes.....The friars are here for more than 60 years...its one of those early presences of the friars....they have done a lot of work and ministry ....as a fruit of their labour they have good number of vocations......its green and heaven on earth.....people are very simple and God fearing...the young ones are educated but all working outside either in India or abroad....
There are three friars....they do most of the work...Guardian Kuriakose is the guiding force....he is a well known preacher here....when he is not preaching he is found in the 2 acres of garden....producing vegetables and other cash crops....works hard....
Br. Binu, is the only son of his parents....studied and worked in Assam...he is now back here because parents are old and sickly.....
Br. Sone Thomas....newly ordained priest.....talented and energetic....both these young friars are pillars of the community....a lot of work carried out with their help....the semi-parish which is entrusted to the friars is looked after well....there is life here and the parish alive and active....

Next year if i visit i will have fish, said sone.....this a fish pond.....they have two of them....waiting for the monsoon to get over.....the fish is growing.....
The garden has got a big cultivation of Tapioca ......
The friary is old but well maintained....the incessant rains sometime makes it difficult to maintain the old structures....

The church and the catechism school....the school is well organized by the friars...there about 200 children who regularly attend the sunday school....

The Syro Malabar Eucharist.....a very good participation by faithful....a lot of singing.....i concelebrated......

Time for Photo of the fraternity......
The friars full of smiles....good community....get along very well.....Kuriakose is a fatherly figure.....
