The visitation of the friars came to an end with a concluding talk, local chapter and Eucharist with the Parishioners. There are 5 friars in the fraternity. all of them are engaged in the pastoral ministry. They render their spiritual services to many convents too. Madras city is just 60Km away from Vallam so they receive many calls for preaching and confession ministry. They have a small parish with 120 families but most of them are poor. The parish priest and fraternity work together to provide the spiritual needs of the people.
The friary also had an orphanage which they closed down due to pressure from the government's harassment. The government kept on interfering and asking for requirements which the friars did provide but they concluded that the government will take care of the orphans and not you. The Building is now vacant and the friars now are planning to start something else. The fraternity is not self sufficient and the rains are scanty in this part of the state. The property does not have a boundary wall and as a result the stray animals come in and destroy any plantation and vegetables The immediate need is to protect the property with a boundary wall. They are looking for benefactors........????????
